This number plate is no longer available.

Issued by Lanark County Council in 1904, the registration V 8 has now become exclusively available through Regtransfers. Our illustration represents the mark on a 1979 Sebring Blue Aston Martin V8 Vantage (‘Oscar India’).

There could hardly be a more appropriate mark, but V 8 would adorn any vehicle, whether or not the registration holds any particular significance. Serious enquiries are invited. Please call now on 01582 967777.

Scarcity

It is increasingly rare for registrations of this age to have survived. Many have been lost as old vehicles were written off or scrapped. This scarcity gives such an old registration a special appeal, similar to that of an antique.

‘Single/single’

The short, one-letter/one-number combinations are the most coveted registrations, being the earliest issues. Most date right back to the beginning of the 20th century. Probably the most famous example is the legendary A 1. Despite popular misconception, it was probably not the first number plate ever issued; DY 1 is the earliest for which records exist.

The expression 'A1' continues, however, to be synonymous with excellence. Interestingly, the term originates from the 18th century Lloyds Register of Shipping classification of merchant vessels for insurance purposes: ‘A’ referring to the finest quality hull, and ‘1’ to that of the masts, rigging, and other equipment.
