March's top 5
If we had to pick a word to describe this month's auction, that word might be 'cryptic'. Many of the top performing registrations in terms of price were not immediately decipherable.

The biggest hitter in this sale was 101 O. Although its meaning to the purchaser wasn't evident to us, the number certainly has visual appeal, and whatever the buyer saw in it was enough to persuade them to part with an impressive £116,950. This 'O' series is very popular, and examples have topped the auction price rankings on several occasions.
At positions two and three in the rankings were 7007 JB (£36,045) and 8008 S (£35,274), two more registrations featuring multiple O/0 characters.

At least there were hints of meaning in these: 7007 JB could be read as 'Toot JB', while 8008 S pretty much spells 'Boobs'.
At number four we had 1 ORO at £33,798. Once again, there was no meaning that we could spot, but that visual impact is there. Rounding off the top spots, at number five, was 40 NAN, which sold for £30,947. This one could have been a birthday plate for someone's nan, or a name plate for someone named Adnan.
Words
Kicking off the word plates (and possible word plates) at this month's auction were 11 RUN at £24,489 and WNG 1T (Wing it) at £19,995. COB 5A (£11,495) could be read as 'Cobra' in the right light, and OP71 MAL at £10,365 was pretty much the optimal spelling of 'Optimal'. R35 ALE (Resale) sold for £9,119 and 50 NEW (So new) for £6,705.
F888 YOU at £6,500 was an intriguing one. We can't help wondering if the 8's were taking on the role traditionally played by asterisks.
Names
The top creditable name to appear in the listings was ASH 12H ('Ashish') at £19,353.
Meanwhile, STN 6H at £16,785 could pass for a 'Singh' registration, although it may not be clear to everyone who sees it. Some people are happy to acquire a name number plate that's recognisable as such to their families and friends, but a little more anonymous to strangers.

STN 6H (if indeed it was picked as a 'Singh' number) is a good example of how well even imperfect name representations can perform. We saw this registration's bid price rise steadily throughout the day, so someone definitely saw something in it. Another 'Singh' opportunity took the form of YS51 NGH at £5,550.
Other name candidates included OSM 999N ('Osman') at £16,528, RAA 74N ('Rayan') at £15,501, ANN 71E ('Annie') at £14,409, 544 NDY ('Sandy') at £11,662, 47 EEM ('Azeem') £10,352, WA22 REN ('Warren') at £9,466, BA17 NES ('Barnes' or 'Baines') at £9,081 and MRR 834N ('Mr Bean') at £7,784. That last one would look great on a Mini.
The charmingly sinister 666 SUE sold for £6,500.
Cars
As always, anyone seeking a number plate for a Porsche 911 would have found themselves spoilt for choice. This month we saw 911 MKY (£15,103), 911 XP (£11,071), 911 GEE (£9,068), 911 TX (£7,797), 911 AWS (£6,500), 911 JSK (£5,242) and more!
The best of the rest
As we have seen, there were many numbers whose appeal lay in their visual impact rather than in the depiction of a name or word - some through brevity and some by character repetition or symmetry.
In addition to those mentioned above, were A100 OOO (£11,341) which followed a pattern we have seen many times before, 99 CCC (£10,468), 1234 HH (£6,577), 8888 CW (£5,897), J6 OOO (£5,614) and XX25 XXX at £5,229.
