Batty about number plates

BAT 5 number plate

We sometimes worry that we could be getting a little obsessed. There are times when we have to remind ourselves that not everything is about personal number plates.

What's that? Exaggerating? You think? Here's an example.

Our MD pointed out a news story about boxer Tyson Fury. It seems that Mr Fury's plans to demolish a house and build a much larger new one have been scuppered by the discovery of two species of rare bat in the attic space. So, you'd expect we would think Heavens! that must be really frustrating or something similar. No, our actual first thought was Wow! We have a fantastic "bat" plate, BAT 5. Let's give Tyson Fury a call and see if he's interested.

Risky business

Why? Why would Tyson Fury, who may not be the biggest bat fan right now, want a bat-themed number plate - even one as perfect as BAT 5? Can you imagine the conversation we might have had if we hadn't come to our senses?

"Hello, Mr Fury? How are you? This is Regtransfers. We read about the bats in your belfry or loft or whatever it was and we thought you might be interested in this fantastic BAT number plate we have, BAT 5. Pardon? Are we taking the what…? No, no, of course not; we just thought you might like… No, really, Mr Fury, there's no need to come round our house. Sorry to have bothered you."

You get the idea. No thought for whether the perfect "bat" registration was actually appropriate for the circumstances, or for our own safety, for that matter.

Grasping at straws

We also found ourselves thinking about other bat-themed or related plates and wondering who might like those. After all, we know plenty of cricketers, and apparently Michael Keaton will reprise his role as Batman in the new The Flash movie. It's almost a shame we already found a "Beefy's" registration for Sir Ian Botham and a "Best Cat" plate for Phil "The Cat" Tufnell. Come to think of it, Phil's best known for his bowling really… But, still, as a former cricketer he's bound to be interested in bats, eh? No? And Michael Keaton doesn't actually live in the UK, does he? Ah well.

All right. We admit that enthusiasm sometimes gets the better of us. Like the time we interviewed actor and former footballer Vinnie Jones. Vinnie had something of a tough and unpredictable image on the field so, naturally, we asked him if he'd like to pose with our "nutter" plate, NUT 73R, just for fun. We were actually a little taken aback by exactly how much menace the word "no" can convey when spoken with feeling.

Anyway, BAT 5, the ultimate "bats" plate, is available to buy from Regtransfers.
